Category Manager – CAPEX (Machinery & Plant Investments)

Location: Stockholm, Gothenburg or Malmö, with travel approx. 4–6 days/month
Employment Type: Full-time
Purpose of the Role
Are you ready to shape the future of NCC’s capital equipment strategy in one of the Nordics’ leading construction and infrastructure companies? As Category Manager CAPEX, you will play a pivotal role in transforming how NCC Industry invests in and manages machinery and plant assets — from strategy to execution with a total cost perspective.
This is not a traditional procurement role. It is a strategic, high-impact position at the heart of NCC’s production capability, sustainability goals, and financial performance. You will guide the company’s investment decisions on critical capital equipment and set the direction for a smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable asset base, plants and machineries, across the Nordic region.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the CAPEX strategy: Define and implement the long-term investment and procurement roadmap for machinery and plant assets including asphalt plants, crushers, pavers, and other machineries at production.
- Lead collaboration: Work cross-functionally with finance, operations, sustainability, and local procurement teams. Act as a bridge between strategic planning and hands-on operations.
- Drive value & efficiency: Introduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) thinking into investment decisions. Standardize machinery specifications to optimize uptime, cost, and performance.
- Shape a new investment process: Develop a governance framework for machinery purchases that aligns with NCC’s broader financial and operational goals.
- Lead sustainability integration: such as electrification, digitalization, and circular economy principles, into category decisions.
- Build supplier partnerships: Establish long-term, strategic supplier relationships that foster innovation, resilience, and mutual value creation.
- Manage change: Shift the organization from ad hoc, site-level decisions to a centralized, strategic CAPEX portfolio approach.
Who We’re Looking For
Background & Experience
- 5–15 years of experience in strategic procurement, category management, or capital equipment sourcing within asset-intensive industries such as construction, mining, manufacturing, or agriculture. Candidates with other relevant backgrounds will also be considered, with management consulting experience considered advantageous.
- Strong exposure to investment planning and cross-functional collaboration.
- Proven track record in managing CAPEX categories and strategic supplier negotiations.
- Experience from OEMs or contractors is highly valuable.
- Familiarity with machinery cost structures (e.g. service, uptime, lifecycle costs) and TCO modelling.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, electrified or digitalized machinery systems is a plus.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, or equivalent field.
Competencies & Traits
- Strategic & structured – able to see the big picture while working through detail-heavy challenges.
- Analytically strong – confident in working with investment data, supplier evaluations, and TCO models.
- Collaborative & diplomatic – skilled in stakeholder management, from site managers to senior leaders.
- Change leader – capable of challenging the status quo, educating internal stakeholders, and influencing through business value.
- Sustainability-minded – able to embed environmental and efficiency considerations into investment strategies.
- Fluent in a Scandinavian language and English.
